Energy Basics: Grounding and Shielding

Welcome to my blog. For a while now, friends and clients have been telling me to start writing.  I’m planning to write about the issues I encounter most frequently with my healing clients.

There are books and classes about metaphysics, energy and healing but they can be hard to find and sometimes the information is different in practice. So here we go.

The first, best thing you can do for yourself is grounding. There are a variety of methods. Here’s what I tell my clients.

First, get fully into your body. There are lots of people only nominally associated with their physical body. We came to experience the physical plane; you must be in your body to accomplish anything.

So take some time to be in the physical. Feel the bottoms of your feet; notice what’s touching your skin. Breathe and notice the air flowing in and filling your lungs. Notice scents. Listen. Experience it all.

Now that you’re centered and present, it’s time to get acquainted with energy.

Your energy body is a higher frequency of your physical body. When you are grounded it means that your physical and energetic bodies are aligned, that you are in your body.

You are a conduit of energy. Optimally, energy moves through chakras (gates). The primary chakras are centered along the head and torso, both front and back. There are also chakras on the top of your head and above as well as on and below the soles of your feet.

Basically you will connect the chakras on the bottoms of your feet to the earth star chakra, located about eight inches below your feet. (Note: The earthstar chakra is always below your feet even if you stand on your head.) To ground, open your feet chakras. To open them, just declare that they are open and know that it is done.

Now allow energy to flow through the earth star chakra and into your body. You don’t need to strain, pull, push, or suck – just allow the energy to flow. Feel the energy as it flows through you. Pay attention to where you feel pain or discomfort, and intend that it be cleared away by the flow of energy. Last, ask that you be shielded and protected for your day.

Do this every day. Consider it part of your daily routine. Make sure you’re grounded before you leave your house. Make sure you’re grounded before you drive or enter a new environment.  Prepare to be amazed at how much better you feel.
